x's feed now gives small accounts a real shot at non-followers

x's open ranking code has a boost for fresh posts from accounts with 50,000 followers or fewer. it's an experiment, not a promise.

what changed

x's published ranking code contains a boost for new and small authors.

per fastclip's read of the code, it can lift one original post per feed request toward the 16th scored position when:

  • the author has 50,000 followers or fewer
  • the post is at most 2 hours old
  • it has fewer than 200 home timeline views

replies and reposts never qualify.

what changed recently

the limits were widened in a commit dated 30 september. before that, the follower cap was 1,000. now most small and mid-size accounts fall inside it.

the fine print

it's tied to an experiment, so it can be on for some viewers and off for others.

a lifted post still gets the normal discount for non-followers, and spam labels can still remove it.

the code picks among eligible posts partly at random, and favours posts whose early viewers like them.

why it matters for a creator business

new accounts used to be invisible for weeks. this gives a fresh account a chance to reach people who don't follow it, early.

that's a window. not a guarantee.
