uk: choking, incest and under-16 roleplay porn becomes a crime from 6 november

from 6 november it's a criminal offence in england and wales to possess or publish realistic porn depicting strangulation, certain relatives, or anyone appearing under 16.

what becomes illegal

from 6 november 2026 it's a criminal offence in england and wales to possess or publish pornographic images that explicitly and realistically depict:

  • strangulation or suffocation
  • penetrative sex between people who appear to be, or pretend to be, close relatives, including some step and foster relationships
  • sexual activity where a person is, or is pretending to be, under 16

realistic means realistic

the offences cover content that shows people who appear, to a reasonable person, to be real.

so it's about how it looks, not how it was made.

the penalties

per the government guidance:

  • up to 2 years for strangulation, suffocation or relatives content
  • up to 3 years for content involving someone who is, or pretends to be, under 16

there are defences, for example if you hadn't seen the image and had no reason to suspect.

why it matters for a creator business

"possess" is the important word. it's not only what you post. it's what sits in vaults and drives.

roleplay that reads young or family-themed is now a legal problem, not just a platform one.

the short version

  • from 6 november, possessing or publishing this content is a crime in england and wales
  • it covers content that looks real, however it was made
