openai's gpt-6.1 terra makes boring agency work cheap
a fast, cheaper model built for forms, app actions and editing. half the price of the bigger ones.
what dropped
openai launched gpt-6.1 terra. it's a fast, efficient model aimed at computer use, visual reasoning, coding and everyday work.
the examples openai gives are the dull stuff that eats a workday: filling out forms, editing videos, reading technical drawings, drafting proposals.
the price
api pricing is $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens.
openai says that's 50% lower than gpt-5.6 terra and gpt-6.1 sol, its bigger model.
it also says terra completes tasks over three times faster than gpt-6 astra and gpt-6.1 sol, and performs on par with gpt-6 astra at a tenth of the price per token. those are openai's own claims, not independent tests.
why it matters for a creator business
most agency hours don't go to big decisions. they go to repetition.
- weekly reports that copy the same numbers into the same template
- caption variations for the same clip
- sorting inboxes and tagging what needs a human
that's exactly the kind of work a cheap, fast computer-use model is built for. the price drop is what makes it worth testing at volume instead of once.
